I currently have Verizon Yahoo On Line Security with Norton antivirus. I think I saw somewhere that in December this is no longer going to be available. Is there any really good security software (for viruses, email, etc.) that is free?

I would recommend either Avira Antivir Free or Avast! Home Edition
Avira is easier to use and has a slightly higher detection rate.
Avast! has antispyware, boot time scanning, email scanning
I would NOT get AVG free
Reasons: It has a lower detection rate and NO anti-rootkit
Important: You may only have one antivirus and one firewall
AntiSpywares(you can have more than one antispyware)
Antispywares are also compatible with antivirus programs
The free versions can detect and remove
Malwarebytes AntiMalware
and
SuperAntiSpyware
Extra Security software
Switch to Firefox from Internet Explorer
Firefox is more secure
MyWot tells you if a site is good or bad
Get a Free Firewall
ZoneAlarm Free Firewall
and
Comodo Firewall
If you want Avira or Avast make sure to uncheck “antivirus”
You have mentioned the term “Free”, so I know my suggestions won’t be the best, but they sure are a lot good.
Meaning security, you will need all kinds of security functions. Note: I will mention just all of the free items here.
First of all, you will need to check for things that make internet browsing unsecure. Don’t worry, I will suggest you ways for which you don’t have to pay a penny !!!
Get an antivirus: – Proactive defense against malware
[AVG Free]
[Avast Free]-…
Get a antispyware: – Proactive defense against malwares
[Spybot Search and Destroy]
[Malwarebytes AntiMalware]…
Get a good firewall: Blocks incoming/outgoing connections
[Comodo Firewall Pro]
[Zonealarm Free]
Get a popup blocker: Blocks unwanted popups
[Google Toolbar with PopUp Blocker]
Internet Explorer -…
Firefox -…
Get a Privacy Cleaner: Removes tracking cookies and history
[Advanced SystemCare]…
[Ccleaner]
I guess now you have all the security features needed for a safe computing.
