Brief answer - Software sales can be extremely lucrative when you get to an enterprise level at a major company (100k+ base, 250k+ OTE) but it takes about 7-10 years of experience before you get to that level.

An entry level job will probably pay anywhere from 50-80k OTE so yeah you can make money but is now the time to do it? Most software companies are laying off people left and right. The rain makers will always have a job, but now isn't the best time to be learning the ropes.

I currently sell enterprise ERP for a fortune 500 company so I'm speaking from experience.
