Can a stand-alone pc be used as an email server?

Can an ordinary home PC not initially or originally designated as a webserver or mail server be used as a mail server?

Moreover, can said PC, be used as a mail server with a simple dial-up connection for the use of pure text mesaging and/or newsletters. (no graphic attachments and such)

If so, then how? What software would lend itself easily to the task without me having to have the be an expert.

As an ex-programmer… I don’t wanna. Although I will write a script if necessary, I’m looking for simple graphical or web-based interfaces whenever possible. Something so easy that it would make a true geek vomit.

Yes as long as it has enough power to run the Server 2003 OS.

You’ll have to first install Windows Server 2003, and then Microsoft Exchange
